KC EarthFest

I just returned last night from our family vacation to Disney World and boy, it’s good to be back!  I hope many of you are attending this weekend’s Kansas City EarthFest.  After seeing how many paper plates, cups, napkins, food containers, and other waste is deposited every day during our trip to Florida, I am even more concerned about what all of this means for our kids’ world.  And, that was just at one theme park! 

KC’s EarthFest is sure to be a fun event for the entire family.  Oh, yeah and did I mention it’s FREE?! So, here are the details:

8:00 AM – Green Elvis
Kick off the EarthWalk while Eco Elvis croons “Green Suede Shoes” and other crowd pleasers. Kansas City’s own King of Green will make you swoon as he rocks his way into your heart.

10:30 AM – Jim Cosgrove (Mr. Stinkyfeet) and the Hiccups
Award-winning kid-rocker Jim Cosgrove knows what kids like to laugh and sing about. And he’s taking that knowledge along with his guitar and a box full of instruments to this year’s EarthFest sing-along for kids of all ages.

11:50 – Checkered Past
Checkered Past performs playful music in support of creating a world that works for all. They’ll groove you and give you something to think about.

1:00 PM – Five Defy
Local artists, Five Defy, first joined EarthFest last year as the band In Transit. The transition is complete as Five Defy energizes the stage with songs about politics, spirituality, and relationships.

Orienteering is the skill of navigating through an unfamiliar area using a detailed map and perhaps a magnetic compass. Learn some skills from local orienteering enthusiasts with a course they have set up at EarthFest!

Join Heartland Tree Alliance for a Tree Walk!
Kevin Smith, District Forester with Johnson County Park and Recreation, will lead a walk along the Tree Trail just outside The Theatre in the Park.

River and Prairie Storytellers
Sit down, relax and enjoy as Molly Postlewait takes you on a journey of the prairie and our natural world during these storytelling expeditions.

Gas Cap Testing
Is your vehicle’s gas cap sealing properly? As you’re leaving today, stop by the Metropolitan Air Quality booth, and ask area experts to check your vehicle. A properly sealing gas cap minimizes harmful ground-level ozone and improves air quality.

Bikes on the Bus

Free Bike Parking
Be treated like a VIP! Save the planet and ride your bike to EarthFest. Missouri Bicycle Federation volunteers will provide free, secure bike parking for the day.
