The City of Overland Park has recently voted to charge admission fees to the Arboretum and Botanical Gardens.
Admission prices will be $3 for adults, $1 for kids ages 6 – 12, and kids ages 5 and under will be free. There will also be two free weeks per year that will allow all of the general public to visit the Arboretum without having to pay, however those details and weeks have not yet been decided. The city has shared that the new fees will "help the Aboretum cover its costs". The new fee structure goes into effect this coming January 1, 2013.
The Arboretum is a 300-acre educational, recreational and cultural resource for the Kansas City region. It offers homeowners, landscapers and arborists an opportunity to view and evaluate a wide variety of hybrid trees and shrubs, native to this area.
So, does this affect your likelihood of visiting the Arboretum? Why or why not?
